• The Instant Pot Pressure Cooker is the easiest way to cook almost anything. I have used it almost daily since I bought it a few weeks ago. It's simple to learn how to use and all the controls are intuitive. I am especially impressed with the meat I have cooked in it. Searing the meat right in the Instant Pot before the cooking process means less pots to clean and the flavorful juices stay in the pot throughout the entire process.It is easy to use and easy to clean. The instructions are clear and easy to read. This is seriously the best appliance I ever bought for myself.
• I particularly like the instructions on how to cut recipes. The selection of recipes is outstanding, love the soup and casserole chapters. A majority of the recipes that I have seen from this source have ingredients like cans of soup or dry mixes that I used definitely. • This book is formatted into 52 chapters with questions to meditate on for a week. If you have gotten a headache from his books in the past - this one is easier to digest as you spend the time meditating on the questions.

  Well-written and thought-provoking. Good read.
• Ask students of apologetics, “Who has wielded the weightiest influence in the 20th century?” There may be a variety of responses, and will, no doubt include the well-known names of Francis Schaeffer, Gresham Machen, and C.S. Lewis. Each of these influential thinkers are with their Savior in heaven.
  
  Who has stepped in to continue the legacy of these titans of the faith in our generation? In my mind, Ravi Zacharias must be included in that list. While his first book, A Shattered Visage The Real Face of Atheism was largely unrecognized, it came at a crucial juncture in my Christian journey and continues to serve me over twenty-five years later. Since that day, Zacharias has continued to write in the field of apologetics and has influenced thousands of students around the world.
  
  Ravi Zacharias has encouraged Christian thinkers to craft careful biblical arguments and equipped them to engage people in the marketplace of ideas. But he has also challenged the skeptical mind with his brilliant intellect, keen insight, and winsome personality.
  
  The Logic of God is the newest offering by Zacharias. This book contains 52 Christian essentials for the heart and mind. The book is targeted to Christian readers but it would be an excellent resource for skeptics to consider as well.
  
  Each chapter follows a predictable pattern. A topic is introduced, a Scripture is offered, and a brief 2-3 page discussion ensues. At the end of each chapter, readers are invited to consider a series of reflection questions and to walk down a path of personal application.
  
  As an avid reader, I must say that Zondervan has gone to great lengths to make this a beautiful book. The hardback edition includes high quality glossy paper. The writing style is engaging and lucid. The person and work of Jesus Christ is celebrated. The Word of God is treasured. And readers are challenged to think through the exclusive nature of truth. Indeed, as the author notes, “Truth by definition is exclusive … The law of contradiction does apply to reality two contradictory statements cannot both be true in the same sense. Thus, to deny the law of noncontradiction is to affirm it at the same time.” Such a statement reveals how Zacharias alerts readers to the importance of philosophy and how good philosophy contributes to effective apologetics.
  
  One of the things that emerges in this book is Ravi’s passion to wed reason and faith. This makes his style unique and resembles the pattern that Francis Schaeffer popularized in the twentieth century. Zacharias writes,
  
  “The connecting of faith and reason is the wonderful journey of the soul. When one’s thinking is set aright again and when the flesh has its shackles broken, the mind and body come under God’s liberating and fulfilling plan. Then we see as He designed us to see. When we come to know our Creator, the questioning is not for doubting but for putting it all together and marveling at His wonders.”
  
  Zacharias has a gift for blending rationality and experience and wouldn’t think of having it any other way. His approach is desperately needed in these postmodern times.

  As the author explains in the introduction,
  
  Today, many people think it is naïve to believe in God because there is not enough evidence for His existence. Others conclude that even if He does exist, He has insufficiently revealed and inadequately explained Himself; therefore He has not convinced us that He is real. Even less has He affirmed that the claims of the gospel of Jesus Christ are true and lead to a worldview that offers the most coherent and logical answers to life’s four essential questions—origin, meaning, morality, and destiny.
  
  For the Christian this is where the battle must be fought, for no worldview suffers more from the loss of belief in God than the Christian one. And unless the “logic” of God—the evidence He has provided us of His existence—is defended, is sought after, is fully engaged with our hearts and minds, every essential of the Christian faith will be deemed illogical and untrue, thereby making them unworthy of rational assent.
  
  The question then is, how does a person come to view this “logic” (this “evidence”) as a reason to believe in a God on whom all other essentials of the Christian faith are built, by which life must be governed, and with which your personal beliefs, your culture, and the unique message of Jesus Christ are examined? The purpose of this book and the way it is designed to be used, is to guide you on that journey.
  
  As the subtitle indicates, the book focuses on 52 key issues including “The Pathway of Pain,” “Behind every question,” “Christianity without Christ?” “Does prayer matter?” “Scandal of the Cross” “Are you lonely?” and many more. The book is designed to be read one topic or question a week. Each topic is relatively short—2 or 3 pages followed by two “Reflection Questions” and two ideas for “Personal Application.” By taking the time to work through the various ideas and arguments, one will gain the conviction that God is real, the He loves us, and that He desires to fulfill the longings of our hearts.

• This book is very well made. It's a nice hard cover, put together neatly and has a bookmark attached to save your page. I love that! Very thoughtful! It is set up, almost like a devotional. It give you a message and scripture and the questions to answer st the end as well as application to use in your life. The author recommends reading one a week, so that you can really reflect on them, which would make the book a year long read if you decided to do it that way. I think the author makes alot of really valid points, it's a great read. I'm not positive that it's a book that would make a non-believer believe in God and Jesus Christ, but it might make them consider some things. I enjoyed reading though, a nice little book to flip through in addition to my bible.

The first edition of Make Electronics established a new benchmark for introductory texts. This second edition enhances that learning experience. Using full color on every page, hundreds of photographs and diagrams convey concepts with unmatched clarity.

Platt uses a hands-on approach throughout. You learn by building your own simple circuits.

You begin by blowing a fuse or burning out an LED to demonstrate voltage, amperage, and electrical resistance. As it says on the cover, "Burn things out, mess things up--that's how you learn!"

The hands-on approach continues with basic switching circuits. You can cut open the sealed case of a relay to see exactly what goes on inside.

Unique 3D diagrams illustrate components as they are plugged into a solderless breadboard. A simple circuit reveals how a capacitor stores and releases electricity.

While Make Electronics minimizes the amount of theory that you need, it does show you how to figure out Ohm's Law and do the simple math to calculate the time constant of a capacitor.

A buying guide shows basic tools ranging from pliers to a low-cost multimeter. Components such as transistors and capacitors are shown in color photographs so that you will quickly recognize them.

A simple "finger test" demonstrates how transistors switch or amplify current. The book then shows functional circuits that you can build to create light and sound, leading to a plan for a simple intrusion alarm.

Platt includes three chapters explaining how to solder wires and build a permanent circuit. However, the skill of soldering is not essential for other projects in the book.

You learn all about integrated circuit chips how they work, what they do, how they are identified, and where you can buy them. Build your own oscillator and one-shot circuits, and learn how to chain timer chips together.

A simple circuit can test the speed of your reflexes. Other circuits include a combination lock for a computer, or a game in which players compete to be the first to press a button. There is a novel, simplified circuit to build electronic dice.

Make Electronics includes advice about setting up your work area, storing parts, and buying additional tools, if you decide to venture further into the field.

The final section of the book explains inductance and the components that make use of it, such as loudspeakers and a simple AM radio. Finally, three chapters explain microcontrollers, with projects that can use an Arduino.

A shopping guide will minimize your investment in parts for the projects. Alternatively, kits from independent vendors contain exactly the parts that you need.

"I just finished Chapters 1 and 2. The best thing about this book is that you start building circuits right away. Mr. Platt gives just enough theory for you to have a basic understanding of why the circuit works. On the other hand, he doesn't really give you the opportunity to test your knowledge of the components and the interactions between components; instead, you robotically build the circuits that he has designed. It would have been nice to see exercises where you take what you have learned and apply it to solve a new problem. I think exercises like this would build confidence. By the end of Chapter 2, I felt like I had an understanding of how resistors, capacitors, and transistors work, but if I were asked to design a simple circuit of my own, I wouldn't feel confident that I could."

• I am about a third of the way through this book and I am loving it. This is the perfect introduction to hands-on electronics. I was an engineering student in college (although not electrical engineering) so I was always kind of upset that after spending countless nights of my life doing all sorts of crazy math problems with respect to circuits, I didn't know something as simple as how a relay works, or how to build anything except maybe a simple circuit with a lightbulb and a resistor. I could design and build an RC circuit and calculate its time-constant but why in God's name I would ever NEED to build an RC circuit was beyond me...
  No more. This book lets you know that its safe to rip open a relay and see exactly why it works. It will give you a circuit design and then have you build it. It will explain why something is or isn't working, and why. This won't make you an expert in electronics, it is definitely on the simple side of things (like algebraic simplifications of mathematical models that are actually rooted in calculus or differential equations), but that's exactly what I was looking for. This book will empower you to build things. I am reading it side by side with the Electricity & Magnetism chapters of my old Physics textbook so I can make the connections with the real theory and the nastier side of the math, but I really couldn't be happier. In spite of years of college, this book is just now making me feel like I know something about electronics.
  Also, I recommend buying the kit that's sold for this book because it will save you a little money and a LOT of time. has been out of stock of it forever, but I went to the closest Radioshack and they had it for $75. Other than that, you will need to buy Digital Multimeter, a pair of wire strippers that can deal with 22-gauge wire, a pair of wire-cutters, a pair of needlenose pliers, and a set of precision screw drivers. Seems steep but if you plan on making use of your new-found knowledge for the foreseeable future, you will be using these tools well after you've worked through this book.
• This book is awesome for anyone starting off in electronics. I've been trying to learn from different sources online which got confusing. After reading this book, so many things I was struggling to understand were starting to come together and make sense.
  There's a good amount of experiments to better your understanding of the basics. Which leads to the only part that sucks ... getting everything for those experiments. The kits they sell are super expensive!
  I went the other route and got the components myself. This actually does save you some money and you'll end up with extras. For general components I purchased a few kits on and for the chips I went onto digikey. The chips are less than a dollar each and shipping was less than 4 dollars and arrived a couple days after the order went through. So don't let those pricey kits get in the way of you learning the right way.
• **Intro**
  This is a nice electronics book. It starts out basic enough that I would say an enthusiastic student in 4th grade or higher, with ample support from their parents could probably get into electronics as a hobby by beginning with this book. It is also suitable for much more advanced people if they are willing to skip the first third of so of the book where the basics are. I meet this category, since I'm a Mechanical Engineer (but importantly, not an Electrical Engineer), and I'm happy to have bought this book just the same.
  
  **Notable positive features**
  1.) This book is substantial. It has glossy pages, color photos, and is 325 pages long. The pictures are bright and sharp. This is the second edition, and the author described the things that have been improved from the first edition.
  2.) There's a lot of basic info for accommodating beginners, and a good brush-up course for more advanced people. It tells how to solder, identify resistors, install and use things like IC's and LED's without burning them out, etc. It tells the basic facts about electronic components, like what IC's, LEDs, and capacitors *are*. It recommends tools and where to get tools and equipment from. It encourages you to experiment in order to learn, like it tells you how to actually go burn up an LED just to see how much (or how little) abuse they can take.
  3.) It has helpful info to explain the subtle electrical engineering concepts that have always confused me, like the difference between a relay and a transistor, and what the three leads on transistors do. My college electronics textbooks didn't do a good job at this, so that's the sort of thing that I'm getting out of this book.
  4.) It has safety information. Soldering safety. Shock hazard safety. What you should and shouldn't be afraid of.
  5.) It doesn't jump into wiring diagrams instantly. It uses photos and other types of sketches for people who haven't mastered wiring diagrams yet.
  6.) It has little bits of electronics history in it in the form of photos of the scientists and engineers from history, and captions under the photo. This keeps things entertaining without filling the text with unwanted extra info.
  7.) There is information toward the end on how to program software for your own contraptions using Arduino, a fun, versatile, and cheap software that is good for programming robots and other things.
  8.) There are some neat example projects, including a crystal radio (a radio that doesn't need batteries).
  
  **Comparison to Hacking Electronics by Simon Monk**
  This book is pretty similar to Hacking Electronics by Simon Monk, and those interested in the topic at hand should consider both of these books. Both are well written, cover a similar spectrum of topics, have color photos, and have glossy pages. I would say both are equally good in writing and content *quality.* This book is slightly longer than the Monk book, and thus has more content, so I like it slightly more for that, because I'm a little more advanced, and I tend to want as much info as possible so I can use it as a reference or handbook. Finally, this book seems a little better for hardware tinkering people than the Monk book, since the Arduino part in this book comprises a smaller percentage of the whole book than in the Monk book.
  
  **Summary**
  If you want to get into tinkering with electronics for fun, or want to learn more about electronics via a "learn by doing" approach, this is definitely a good book. It starts out basic enough that you can probably start from the very ground level, with knowing almost nothing. I think this book would also be good if you are teaching grade school or middle school students about electronics. Finally, this book would be a good handbook for the shop of a maker, circuit bender, hobby roboticist, or anyone else that likes to tinker with electronics, and needs an occasional reminder about resister color codes, for example, or how to hook up transistors.
  
  I recommend this book with essentially no reservations!
• I just finished Chapters 1 and 2. The best thing about this book is that you start building circuits right away. Mr. Platt gives just enough theory for you to have a basic understanding of why the circuit works. On the other hand, he doesn't really give you the opportunity to test your knowledge of the components and the interactions between components; instead, you robotically build the circuits that he has designed. It would have been nice to see exercises where you take what you have learned and apply it to solve a new problem. I think exercises like this would build confidence. By the end of Chapter 2, I felt like I had an understanding of how resistors, capacitors, and transistors work, but if I were asked to design a simple circuit of my own, I wouldn't feel confident that I could.

• at least with 50 Shades, the characters were relatable and had dimension. The whole plot was dialogue driven thus getting to know the characters, in The Mister I could care less about our two main people. I don't know about them,and i don't want to from the little i do know. It took forever with NO enthusiasm just to get to the place where he hears her play the piano even though you know he has to find out eventually.....
  Plot is tedious. Holy Shmoly I don't even care how it ends.
• This book was terrible. The characters had absolutely NO depth. It jumped around all over place and was full of plot holes. There were so many opportunities given the author has not released anything in the past 10years, I would have expected this to be a well thought out book, with loveable characters. Do yourself a favour and don’t bother with this book.
• Where do I begin? Perhaps from the beginning? Alright, EL James was my very first read (and I mean i NEVER read books for fun or even when I had to for school). After reading the Fifty Shades Trilogy I was hooked on ROMANCE. So needles to say I AM A HUGE EL JAMES FAN and she got me started on reading romance!
  
  I was so nervous to start reading this because I wasn't sure what to expect. It was NOT anything like I expected or didn't. I keep having to remind myself that this is not part of the fifty shades, it's a whole new..everything...and WHICH IT IS!! You can very much tell this is a EL JAMES book because of the writing, some words and the style. I have nothing to base this off of except as a NEW read, so it was rather shocking to me. This is VERY from the 3rd person narrated and you get both POV's. Younger heroine, age 23, older hero but not by too much. Maxim is a man of many talents, aside form being Earl of Travethick..photographer, DJ and a composer, among other things.
  
  This to me aside from some IRONIC words used to reference fifty shades in the book, is a very MODERN PRIDE & PREJUDICE feel...with a twist. The ending about killed me, that was a rush! While reading you're constantly anxious to what will happen next. It's exhilarating. Edgy. Romantic. Stimulating. It grows on you. Just...beautiful.
  
  I am rating this a 5 PLUS PLUS & HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! It is definitely making the TOP 2019 MUST READ list!
  
  H A P P Y - R E A D I N G!
• First of all, these characters were awful. There was absolutely no depth to them and no growth.
  
  Maxim went from having an affair with his brothers widow two days after he died to all of a sudden being infatuated with his maid.
  
  Alessia went from being this shy timid maid who knew nothing to this nympho.
  
  The plot did not flow at all and skipped all over. Then the ding was just BAM, it’s done. Won’t be reading anymore of her books that’s for sure.
• I had to read this one because it’s written by E L James. I enjoyed the 50 Shades trilogy. So, this one should be good, right? Not! The story is far-fetched and difficult to believe. A Lord, who is one of the most handsome eligible bachelors, falls for his maid who is an illegal immigrant that can barely speak English. The relationship is all about chemistry. The only thing they seem to have in common is their love of classical music. Just not very interesting or believable.
• I knew the author wasn't a great writer, but her 50 shades series had that certain something that would not let me leave one books unread. I just couldn't get enough of the main characters. In "The Mister," the authors lack of skill at story telling, is glaringly obvious. The plot is amateurish; the story preposterous and the writing juvenile. I picked up and put down this novel at least four times in one day. I just couldn't work up the interest to finish this book. • When you live paycheck to paycheck, it’s a real splurge to spend $10 on a book. But oh the disappointment when the books stinks! This book was juvenile and unbelievable. I hated the way the font would change and how you never really knew who was “speaking” because it may be a paragraph in first person and the next page may be in third person. Save your money and reread Fifty Shades if you need to read something by EL James.
• Lacked the character depth, plot twists, and scene development that made us all fall in love with the Fifty Shades series. I left the book feeling very little respect for the main characters, not to mention couldn’t relate with them at all.

• While I agree with the author's attempt to un-demonize Wallis, and make her more sympathetic to history, I feel in some ways this book went way too far in the other direction. Honestly--the title should have been Saint Wallis, or something. Yes--she was a nice, charming, intelligent woman BUT there's no getting around the fact that she was ALSO a desperate, grasping social climber when she first met Edward, a woman who (nice person though she might be) became ADDICTED to the jewels and status he gave her--who couldn't really say no to him when he offered her his undying love. (Even when she was already married to a nice guy.)
  
  I feel like the author breezes over the reasons WHY she was that way Wallis's childhood and romantic past before she met Edward--IE - her shame during her formative years at being the illegitimate poor relation of a very prominent Baltimore family, her first disastrous, abusive marriage and the disgrace she was in as a "divorcee" in an era where a woman's only power was the man she was married to, and an unrequited love affair after the end of her first marriage that ended badly. (Before Ernest, Walllis fell in love with a diplomat who rejected her because she wasn't good enough. This isn't even mentioned in the book)
  
  No wonder she craved the King's power and money (but was actually bored by the man)! But it also explains why she didn't let the King go long before the relationship got too intense, and was unable to really reject him for long. Therefore she ended up being manipulated into a 35 year marriage to a spoiled boy-ex-King, and vilified by history.
  
  During the marriage--Yes--she planned beautiful parties for him and decorated wonderful homes to make him happy , but at heart--the abdication made Wallis cruel and abusive towards Edward in their marriage because she was bitter and resentful about being trapped (also glossed over in the book.)
  
  Explaining why these things happened would have made Wallis a much more interesting, complex, flawed and totally understandable HUMAN character. And frankly this would have been a much more enjoyable read. Saints are boring. Wallis's story deserved better.
• Another book about Wallis and Edward? Haven't they published every known occurrence in their shallow, selfish lives?
  
  Anna Pasternak, whose great-uncle was Russian writer Boris Pasternak, wrote a lovely book about his great love, Lara, which I loved. But she knew her information through family and friends of the family. Can anyone who knew the Windsors still be alive? Evidently, yes.
  
  Yes, it is a re-hash of everything we have read before in numerous books over the years. There are a few tidbits I didn't know about that were revealed, but certainly nothing earthshattering.
  
  It is what she didn't say that worries me. She writes about the war between the Queen Mother (Queen Elizabeth II's mother) and Wallis Simpson, but she leaves out an incident which poisoned the possibility of there ever being a truce between the two women that happened one day at Fort Belvedere. As Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon Windsor walked into a room unannounced, she overheard Wallis doing a spot-on impersonation of her voice to a gaggle of guests. She stopped in her tracks, gave Wallis a frosty stare, and left. Did this happen? It is written about in numerous books.
  
  When I was living and working in London in the late 60s and early 70s, I dated someone whose family knew the Duke & Duchess well. He brought it up casually one afternoon as we walked through Hyde Park. "I can assure you, there won't be a marriage between one of the royals and an American for some time. Perhaps never" he said. Well, 50 years later there was such a union. A royal prince to a divorced American woman with a ditzy family and a D-List acting background! I could hear Wallis cackling her head off as the two were wed. I call Meghan, 'Wallis's Revenge'! Sadly, she is going to have a tough row to hoe throughout her marriage to Prince Harry. He may have to abdicate his position in order to live a happy life with her and their family. I can see them living outside the royal family doing their own thing on their own. Surely this idea has not skipped Her Majesty's thoughts, as well. History repeating itself.
  
  Ms. Pasternak also mentions the TV series, Edward & Mrs. Simpson, which I have watched over and over through the years. She speaks about what a wonderful job actor Edward Fox did playing the Duke, but fails to mention the incredible job Cynthia Harris does as Wallis. I can't understand how she omitted this, as the book is about her, as well. For me, Ms. Harris WAS Wallis Simpson. No one has come close to capturing her look and voice and probably never will.
  
  Back to my English friend, Patrick. During our walk he told me that he knew, as gospel, the truth about Wallis Simpson will never, ever see the light of day. "My dear, you have NO idea who and what this woman really was! Thank God she came along and stole our King before Hitler could get a hold of him! Had she not, we would be speaking German today!" D. J. Taylor wrote a novel about Wallis dying just before they wed and what Edward's life would have been like as a single King. Entitled The Windsor Factor, it is well worth reading. Taylor has a breathtaking way with words.
  
  If you were to stop one of the high school students who go to school next door to my building and ask them who Wallis and Edward were, not one of them would know who you were talking about. Ms. Pasternak's readership for this book is probably aged 60+. My own daughter, aged 45 wouldn't know who they were, nor would she care' I foolishly titled my review of Andrew Morton's book, 'The Sun Finally Sets On The Windsors.' I should have waited until this book came out.
  
  While I enjoyed hearing the story over again, I think about what Patrick said so many decades ago that the truth will never, ever be revealed about both of them. I did not know that Edward was rendered sterile by mumps as a child or that she had a delicate sexual condition that made it impossible for her to have children. This was never mentioned in previous books. A perfect match, then, isn't it?
  
  I closed the book tonight at 11 having spent most of the day reading it from cover-to-cover. Do these two people truly merit our interest after all these years? Not really. Most of what has been written is a fabrication by the authors to perpetuate a Disney movie scenario for the ages. The price they paid for their folly was beyond any sacrifice for love anyone has ever endured. Perhaps that is why their 'love story' endures.
• This new biography of Wallis Simpson (which was published with the title "Untitled"in the UK which is much more appropriate) is a fascinating new insight into an historical character we think we know. The author succeeds in rescuing Wallis Simpson from the two-dimensional historical treatment she has largely received to date and reveals her as a complicated, intelligent and largely sympathetic character. This book is a woman's take on a story that until now has largely been told by men and it is fascinating. The biography reads like a novel; even though you know what happens you do not want to put it down as the story unfolds.
• I've read pretty much every book about the DoW that has been published. This book adds nothing much new, and mostly takes it's material from the other books. No new insight.
• I both loathed and pitied her as I read this book. Complaining about the privileged life they led was appalling to us ‘in-royals’

• Like most people, I believed the stories I'd heard about Wallis Simpson. Reading this book changed my mind about her. This was a very interesting read and I've donated my purchase to my local library.
• Very informative book about Wallis and David. If you like books about the royal family and want to add to your knowledge, this book is for you. Enjoyed every page and learned a lot of backstory.
